Professor Ejaz Ansari, FRCOphth MD: Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, Maidstone, Medway, Tunbridge Wells & Sussex
Professor Ansari is a consultant eye surgeon in Kent, specialising in cataract surgery, refractive surgery and the treatment of glaucoma. He has a special interest in early glaucoma diagnosis, various forms of laser surgery, small incision day case cataract surgery and the latest laser and surgical techniques for glaucoma. Professor Ansari also specialises in minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) and works collaboratively in designing new surgical devices in this growing area of expertise.
Professor Ansari BSc (Hons), MBBCh, FRCOphth MD qualified from the University of Wales College of Medicine where he was awarded the highly competitive International Glaucoma Association Fellowship, which allowed him to undertake dedicated research towards a higher degree (M.D.). He completed his training with a highly regarded Glaucoma Fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.
Professor Ansari is an established Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and also the Clinical Director for Ophthalmology and lead clinician for the glaucoma service at the Eye Ear and Mouth Unit, Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. He also has sessions at the Medway and Sevenoaks Hospitals. His practice is based at Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone and Chatham.
He is also a Professor at the Department of Physical Sciences, University of Kent at Canterbury. His main research interests include minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), lasers in glaucoma treatment and intraocular lens technology for micro-incision cataract surgery (MICS).
Being an excellent teacher he has given many national and international presentations and is working on strengthening hospital links with the community. He is an advisor to Clinical Commissioning Groups for ophthalmic service provision. He is currently an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
